In the January 30th issue of the WSJ, Rabbi Aryeh Spero wrote “What the Bible Teaches About Capitalism.”
With the value of capitalism under attack, this article is a refreshing change. Critics abound whenever capitalism is championed. Some have denounced the values behind a capitalistic system as immoral or unethical. Even among GOP candidates the ethics of capitalism has been questioned. The term “equality” is often evoked to champion the anti-capitalist argument. Rabbi Spero rightly points out the Biblical perspective that “Equality” is equality under the Law and not equality of outcome. The politic of envy has no place in Biblical teaching.
